Howling Moon

Wed 3rd – Mon 29th Aug 2011

“Blood, fur, teeth and earth. Feathers, tears, leaves and stars. Running far away.”

Flyaway Theatre

Maggie fell asleep in her bed but woke up in a dark forest full of crying trees. Her only hope of escape seems to be a charismatic joker known as the Fox. He assigns himself to be her protector and shows her what could be the way out - the shining trail of footprints she left as she ran into the woods.

If they can follow the footprints before they disappear maybe everything will be alright. However the Wolf is drawing ever closer and what about the family of schizophrenic magpies - Sorrow-Joy, Girl-Boy, Silver-Gold and Secret? They have a message for Maggie concerning the huge storm clouds gathering over the trees…

Will the storm break? What does the Wolf really want from her? And what lies buried beneath the forest floor?

Combining original music, dance, and vibrant characters, this is a raw, uplifting and transportive story about coming to terms with being cured.

Sharpen your claws and come into the forest. These are our tracks.

“Heather Wilmot’s script is at times brilliantly funny, and at others heart-wrenchingly sad … 'HowlingMoon' somehow succeeds in everything it sets out to do. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you smile, it makes you pine, and it takes you on one long rollercoaster journey.” (Vision)

“very accomplished, unusually so for student-written plays” (The Yorker)

“I urge you to go see 'Howling Moon'. … If the performance affects you anything like it did me you’ll want to sit around and think about this thing for the rest of the night.” (Nouse, ****)

Admission: £7.50(£6.50) – £9.50(£8.50)
