SUMMARY

Meet Mike and Les: now you know their names. For these Shakespeare spouting louts, the east end is their all, sex and violence from wall to wall. A bike makes them complete as they undress the elite. Now turn to Dad. He longs for the days when there weren’t any gays and the street did beat to jackbooted feet. At his side lies Mum who laments and bawls of dancing halls and theatre stalls not lurid scenes in cinema screens. Last but not least in this parody of the East stands Sylv: bored by boys brawls and perverted catcalls she wishes for more. Now you know their names.

Full of sex and fury, East is a sharp, affectionate and funny expose of life in London's East End. With its uncompromising physical performance style and its rich poetic language veering from Shakespearean parody to the shatteringly profane, it is a rollercoaster of gripping theatricality, teeming with both visual and verbal exuberance.
