“A new stage version of the Dickens classic novel”

BAWDS

SUMMARY

Nick Warburton’s new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Nicholas Nickleby bristles with sub-plots, from beatings at Yorkshire’s Dotheboys Hall School to the streets of London and Portsmouth.

After the death of his father, and left with no earthly goods, Nicholas leaves his childhood home in Devonshire on an adventure to seek his fortune and provide for his sister and widowed mother.

With heroes and villains aplenty and a wealth of supporting characters, we meet many of Dickens’ most memorable creations including the menacing Ralph Nickleby, Nicholas’s miserly uncle, and Wackford Squeers, the abominable headmaster of Dotheboys Hall. Nicholas’s travels through Victorian England include rescuing orphans, appearing as Romeo with the Crummles theatre company, and meeting the beautiful Madeline Bray.

This exciting new production vividly brings to life one of history’s most popular novels and promises a feast of entertainment suitable for all the family for the festive season.
