SUMMARY

Like notes that trickle from a music box, this play’s events unfold from a single centre: a rumpled double-bed in the middle of the sick-room of a 17-year-old girl.

The Music Box weaves two narrative threads together in disturbing and moving ways; two lovers hurtle through an epic tragic affair; three unusually imaginative siblings encounter a strange child at night, who challenges the reality of their dreams. The music box’s repetitive tune has haunting implications for the play’s exploration of corrupted innocence, loneliness, and desire.

The first act of The Music Box was awarded the Florence Staniforth Prize in 2011. The play promises to fascinate audiences with its exploration of the pain and longing of controlling love, the boundaries between reality and imagination and the daring play of mystery and discovery.
