SUMMARY

‘The Marlowe has had more influence on British theatre than, I think, anyone knows’

SIR PETER HALL

‘A powerhouse of theatrical expertise’

SIR IAN McKELLEN.

As darkness falls, young runaways find themselves at the edge of a city. Here nature is off-balance as jealousy and love-sickness rules. The madness of a dream plays itself out as the lovers come to blows and the beautiful red-haired Titania all but loses her mind in pursuit of an Ass. Meanwhile Peter Quince and his troupe of builders try desperately to keep the show on the road in the countdown to the big royal wedding...

Blending movement, mask-work and new music with Shakespeare’s original text, Kate Sagovsky (RSC Season 2011) directs an uproarious production of Shakespeare’s best-loved play for Cambridge University’s renowned Marlowe Society, whose alumni include Tilda Swinton, Ian McKellen and Sam Mendes.
