SUMMARY

Ten years since the end of the war, and your husband’s still nowhere to be seen. While Odysseus is cavorting with Calypso, or carousing with Circe and the Sirens, the shrewd suitors pile up on Penelope’s doorstep, exhausting her hospitality and queuing up to replace Odysseus when he’s given up for dead. Struggling to raise a son and run the kingdom alone, what’s a mother to do?

Retelling the myth of Odysseus from the point of view of his wife, Margaret Atwood’s short story is brought to life on stage in her own adaptation. Watch this year’s freshest dramatic talent reinterpret the world’s most famous myth through Atwood’s “brilliant...jokes, cunning replotting and smart updating” (Mary Beard).
